Budget Enforcement

Common Sense dictates that prudence is required in managing your personal budget. We all know there must be a balance in what you bring in and what you pay out. Many of us, maybe even most of us, have collected a debt along the way. When you are in debt you try your hardest to get out. You tighten your belt and eat more peanut butter and jellys. If you go to long without paying your debt, your subjected to collection, civil action, and fines. You may lose your house or means of transportation, or in some cases your job. When certain debts owed to federal or state government go unpaid, you could even find yourself in jail. Why is the government different? Are there no penalities for amassing debts that are unfathomable to the private citizen?
When the government overspends and the deficit rises to the levels it is at now we are getting that money from somewhere. In our case it is various other countries, including China, which invests in our country the way you might invest in a private company. These countries buy bonds and the US government uses that investment to operate or expand. The US government can only pay this money back when the economy turns around and we experience growth. This is because growth equals more jobs and more money changing hands which means more taxes collected by the government. In order to spur that growth we have seen the US government defy common sense and pump more and more of the borrowed money into markets, programs and infrastructure.
Let’s bring this to a more personal level. Let’s say you and a spouse own your own home. One of you loses a job, so you have less money coming in. Instead of saving money and investing only in the gainful employment of that spouse, you go out and apply for a few credit cards and use those credit cards to offset the loss of income. You buy food, you buy goods you need, and for awhile you keep the same standard of living enjoyed before you lost half your income. Finally, those bills start coming do and you are unable to pay them. So, you keep taking out more credit to pay off old debt and your debt level grows and grows. By the time your spouse gets a new job, your debt is so large you are unable to keep up with the interest. This is the road to bankruptcy. This is the road our government is on.
It gets worse in the case of government. Because the government is the source of the money you and I use everyday. They’ve decided simply to flood the market with more of it, more printed money. This means the banks can lend more cash to you and me or businesses that need it. While this seems like a good idea in the short term, the more money there is in circulation if the economy does start to grow, the more inflation will exist. This means goods will shoot up in price. Food, gas, and utilities will all sky rocket while our pay rates struggle to catch up. This will only cause more debt for private citizens again and will create the same situation that caused the current recession. Also, the government will have to raise taxes across the board once growth hits to pay off the massive debt. No matter how you look at it this ends badly.
The United States government should not be in the business of operating at a deificit. Common Sense dictates that prudence is required in managing the US budget.

To be considered:
Budget Enforcement Amendment
The United States shall not operate on a budget deficit. Any legislation increasing spending or decreasing revenues must be on a pay-as-you-go basis. The President is herby authorized to invoke sequestration within 15 calendar days after the Congress ends a session to eliminate a budget-year breach. An exception may be granted by simple majority of both houses of congress, only for the purpose of providing for the national defense.

Take my gun, from my cold, dead hand

President Barrack Obama has proven time and again to be a master politician.  By seizing on the public's interest in, and attention to the recent escalation in violence along our border with Mexico, he has found a way to further infringe on 2nd Amendment rights with further gun control, albeit by circumventing the citizens and the Constitution.
The president has been asserting in recent weeks that 90% of all guns involved in Mexican violence come from the United States.  Several different studies have debunked this myth; in fact, only around 17% of these weapons come from the US.  The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) admits that it's really 90% of all traced guns that come from this side of the border.  It turns out a majority of the weapons are never traced back to their origin.
So why would the president continue to make such an obvious error?  The answer becomes clear if you recall what Obama told a San Francisco fundraising crowd during the 2008 campaign: "It's not surprising they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."  Or, maybe you remember a form filled out while in the Illinois State Senate which came to light in the campaign:
Question 35.  Do you support state legislation to:
a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Obama's answer: Yes.
b. ban assault weapons? Obama's answer: Yes.
c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Obama's answer: Yes.
Are you getting the theme?  Obama is anti-second amendment.  But, the Supreme Court has already overturned laws infringing on the right to bear arms, numerous times, and he knows there is no way a Constitutional amendment to control guns will pass.  So, he has moved into the realm of international law.  As reported in the New York Times on April 16th, President Obama is calling for the Senate to ratify the treaty aimed at curbing so-called illegal arms trafficking.
The government is extending its control through private sector nationalization, increasing welfare programs, and now it wants to take away our defense against it.  At a time when the Obama administration is labeling people as extremists for supporting issues and principles they do not agree with, do we really want them to take away our only defense against total government control?  George Mason, a founding father and one of the most influential thinkers behind the 2nd Amendment, once said: "What is the militia?  It is the whole people.  To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."
President Obama, you will have to pry my gun from my cold, dead hand.
